People


Cartagenan people are from a multiethnic Spanish speaking city in South America (Colombia) called Cartagena. Cartagenans are predominantly Roman Catholic and are a mixture of Europeans, Africans, and Amerindians.

Standards of education are very high in Cartagena and you will find a good conversation everywhere. People generally only speak English in the rich neighborhoods but the Spanish is amongst the clearest and easiest to understand in the world.

Cartagenans are family oriented people and guys are famous for loving their mother that psychological condition was named after it. Many will only leave the house when they get married or move out of their hometown in search of work.

Appearances are very important and it’s common for people to spend a lot of money on their suits.

Like everywhere in South America, anyone can afford it will have a maid. She will be paid a salary of $200-250 a month.

A common thing is that nobody ever arrives on time.

Cartagenans are friendly and curious about foreigners so it should not be too hard to meet people. Look for street bars where people hang around outside and mill around.

Cartagena is a great place to improve your Spanish as there are very few tourists here and you will be force to speak Espanol on the daily basis.
